Having always been thinking about doing dermal fillers for my face and I’m so glad I decided to do this with Halley Medical Aesthetics!
As I age, I always feel that my face has lost its volume over the years. This is getting more evident ever since I gave birth! I feel like I have aged quite abit with all the late nights. Hence I decided to visit Dr. Terence Tan for a consultation at Halley Medical Aesthetics.

Consultation Process
During the consultation, I raised my following concerns with Dr. Terence Tan
1. Loss of volume in face
2. Prominent chin
3. Laugh lines
This is evident because I always look tired even though I had sufficient sleep the night before. I also do not look as youthful as before, which is more evident after I gave birth.
After listening to me, Dr. Terence Tan also shared with me his expert opinions and suggested the types of Dermal Fillers to be used for the treatment.
He suggested to us Dermal Fillers from Juvederm.
Dermal fillers are medical products that sculpt the face for more definition or help to restore skin and facial contours to their former youthful appearance. Dermal fillers are made of various kinds of materials that have been developed for injection into the skin. Dermal fillers can be grouped into two types:
1. Hyaluronic acid fillers
2. Non-hyaluronic acid or collagen-stimulating fillers
Hyaluronic acid fillers, as the name suggests, contain hyaluronic acid, which is an ingredient that is safe for most people. That’s because hyaluronic acid is a natural compound found in our skin and is responsible for many functions in our body like hydration and lubrication of joints. It also aids tissue repair and stimulates the production of the connective tissue that plumps our skin (i.e. collagen).
Collagen-stimulating fillers, on the other hand, use ingredients that stimulate our body’s own collagen for long-lasting effect. They are also called bio-stimulating fillers. They contain safe, synthetically produced compounds that when injected into the skin, volumises the area and stimulates the body’s fibroblasts to produce collagen. This results in very natural, long-lasting volumisation.
About Juvederm fillers
Dermal fillers like the Juvederm range of fillers that were prescribed contains hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid diminishes as we age, causing our skin to lose its moisture and elasticity, resulting in fine lines and wrinkles. The Juvederm fillers also contain lidocaine, an anaesthesia which minimises discomfort during treatment.
During the consultation, we decided that we will target these areas:
1. Tear trough (Under Eye area)
2. Mid-face
3. Nasolabial folds
4. Marionette lines
So in total, we decided to use these 4 fillers:
1. Juvederm Volbella (1 syringe)
2. Juvederm Voluma (1 syringe)
3. Juvederm Volift (1 syringe)
4. Juvederm Volux (1 syringe)
You may ask why so many fillers? This is because the Juvederm brand has a range of fillers, which are differentiated based on the firmness and viscosity (thickness and stickiness) of the gel. Whether you need a firmer or softer filler would depend on the area that requires treatment, the condition of your skin, and the desired result.
Doctors might prescribe a firmer filler together with a softer one, so as to fill up facial volume loss and at the same time deliver a natural result.
For example, Dr. Terence Tan prescribed the Juvederm Volbella filler for my undereye area as it is a softer filler, suitable for filling the more delicate areas like the undereye area without looking too unnatural, while Juvederm Voluma was used for the mid-face and nasolabial folds as a slightly firmer filler is needed to fill up these deep folds effectively. Juvederm Volux is the firmest filler out of these four, and it is usually used for face contouring or face shaping, which made it suitable for the chin area to soften the look by filling up the marionette lines.
During the treatment
Before we officially start the treatment, Dr. Terence Tan will go through the products he will be using once again.
You may also choose to use numbing cream but I didn’t opt for this option as I have pretty high tolerance level for pain.
The process started the undereye area on one side of my face first before moving down to the Mid-face, then to the nasolabial folds and mastery at the marionette lines. Dr. Terence Tan was also very reassuring during the whole process and constantly gives me encouragement and always explains to me what is he going to do next as well.
After doing one side of the face, I can totally see the difference between the treated side vs the untreated side.
The treatment then continues to the other side of my face.
And did I mention that the undereye area is not as painful as I thought it would be! This is because of the magic needle that Dr. Terence Tan used in the treatment.
The Magic Needle is not actually a needle but a micro-cannula. It distributes the filler more evenly, and as it is blunt and extremely pliable, it slides under our skin with minimal discomfort. This allows doctors to apply the filler with practically no pain or bruising.
The whole process took less than 30 minutes and I am out of the treatment room by then. There was totally no downtime after the treatment as well!
After treatment consultation
We went back to the consultation to see my before and after pictures and oh boy, I am totally blown away by the results. I believe the pictures below speak a thousand words!
After looking at the pictures, don’t you all agree that I look less tired and my skin looks more plumped and youthful? My smile line has also become less obvious as well! I am totally loving this look!
